www.richardmackenzie.site50.net Solus cum sola (Pavan) by John Dowland (Euing lute book ff. 27v-28) played by Richard MacKenzie on a 7-course renaissance lute in g' by James Marriage at pitch A=440Hz Born in Southampton in 1990, Richard MacKenzie is rapidly gaining recognition as a soloist and collaborative artist on renaissance and baroque lutes, renaissance and baroque guitars, vihuela, orpharion and theorbo. He is currently a permanent member of five professional ensembles; Chordophony (Europe's only professional lute quartet), Il Festino, Galliarda, Balisiensis and Mascherata, and his many professional collaborations include Charivari Agréable (dir. Kah-Ming Ng), Ex Cathedra (dir. Jeffrey Skidmore), Linden Baroque (dir. Steven Divine), The Madrigirls, Ars Nova, Fiori Musicali featuring James Bowman (dir. Penelope Rapson) and Oxford's New Chamber Opera (dir. Michael Burden, mus. dir. Steven Divine). Richard was also made a tutor on the NWEMF's summer school at the age of 17. In 2011 Richard completed a degree in music at The Queen's College, University of Oxford. Whilst studying at the university he was also a keen solo performer, performing seven solo lunchtime recitals in some of the most diverse concert venues across Oxford (for more details of these solo programmes please click here).
